Ledecky takes two on first night of Pan Pacs
Olympian Katie Ledecky won two events and set two meet records Thursday, on the first night of the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships. The 17-year-old distance phenom opened the night with a victory in the women’s 200m freestyle, turning in a time of 1:55.74. She then returned to the pool later in the session to take the 800m free in 8:11.35.
Pan Pac Meet Notes: Day 1
This morning, during the first prelims session of the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, Matt Grevers and Ryan Murphy swam faster than the former meet record in the men’s 100m backstroke. A lot has been said about the American men’s dominance in this event, but to really get an appreciation of it, it helps to step back and look at the bigger picture.

Update on Missy Franklin
Four-time Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder Missy Franklin experienced back spasms during Team USA’s training on Tuesday, August 19, in preparation for the Pan Pacific Championships. Her status for the scheduled 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke will be determined prior to preliminary heats on Thursday morning.
