The USA Swimming National Team Manager Program is designed to identify the best team managers around the country who may be eligible to work with the National Team, from National Select Camps to the most elite international camps and competitions.


What is a National Team Manager?

National Team Managers are a vital part of our athletes' success at competitions ranging from Junior Team events in Canada and Hawaii, to the Olympic Games in China, London and beyond.The National Team Manager is a critical communicator amongst members of a National Team staff. From implementing travel and meal arrangements and daily itineraries to lifting boxes to communicating with medical staff, the National Team Manager is a doer and facilitator, doing whatever is necessary to ensure that coaches can execute their design for competitive success. 


What Skills Does a National Team Manager Need?

The National Team Manager is a highly-organized individual with the motivation to get the job done, with the best interest of the Team in mind at all times. The National Team Manager’s special skills include a knack for multi-tasking, working under pressure, succeeding in foreign environments, and teamwork. The National Team Manager is also physically fit, with the ability to lift and carry 20-40 lb packages for distances up to 300m. National Team Managers must have excellent communications and organizational skills, be able to work efficiently in high-pressure situations, and have strong interpersonal skills.


Additionally, National Team Managers Must:

Be a citizen of the United States of America.
Be a current member of USA Swimming.
Be twenty-five years of age or older.
Hold a valid driver’s license and United States passport.
Hold current certification in CPR and Multi-Media First Aid.
Have a working email address and telephone number.
Have experience working with swimming or other sports teams.
Agree to a criminal, motor vehicle and credit background check (fees may apply).
Submit an electronic physician’s statement of fitness.
National Team Managers may NOT be in another National Team Pool or Officials' Listand may not be a permanent coach in or of a foreign country.


The National Team Manager's Manual contains the duties and expectations of the head manager and support staff. All National Team Managers and those wishing to become National Team managers should familiarize themselves with the information in the Manager's Manual.
