The January-February 2016 edition of Splash Digital is now available online and as a mobile app for your iPad and iPhone.
Here’s a look at some of the stories you’ll find in this issue:
Trials with Fire
A cascading waterfall. Fireworks. Fans wearing patriotic T-shirts in the stands to commemorate the Fourth of July. These are just a few examples of the pageantry that’s made the past two U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, in host city Omaha, Neb., unique and memorable. So with 2016 Trials returning to River City this summer for a third consecutive time, what does the joint effort between the Omaha Sports Commission and USA Swimming have planned?
2015 Golden Goggle Awards
Olympic champions and world-record holders Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps claimed top honors as repeat Athlete of the Year winners last November at the 2015 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Awards in Los Angeles. Here’s a look at the winners in each category.
The Best Ever
Before George Haines left Santa Clara Swim Club in 1974, he would have 38 swimmers make one or more U.S. Olympic teams and bring home 53 medals, numbers no coach before or since has come close to matching. Says Skip Kenney, an Olympic coach himself, “George Haines could coach a rock to swim fast.”
Swim-A-Thon Generates Big Wins
Nestled in a quiet little Alaskan town of less than 5,000 people, the 50 Seward Tsuanmi swimmers raised over $29,000 from their Swim-A-Thon™. They not only won the top prize from the USA Swimming Foundation, but they generated funds to keep their team alive.
