Scott Colby


Since August 2007, Coach Scott Colby has been a Sport Performance Consultant for USA Swimming.  Prior to that, Scott coached in Ohio, Louisiana (Bengal-Tiger Aquatic Club), Texas (Fort Worth Area Swim Team), served as an assistant at Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta and coached for 5 years at a YMCA on Long Island.  His Louisiana team placed top ten at Nationals. 

His swimmers have finalled at Olympic Trials, won 2 National titles and 7 Junior National titles including all four strokes, set three National Age Group Records, and won the National Meet Bob Kiputh High Point award. Scott has also produced numerous Top 16 athletes.  He holds a Masters degree in Physical Education and is an ASCA Level 5 coach.


Mark Hesse

Mark has been with USA Swimming since July 2012.  He has 27+ years of coaching experience as a club coach at Fort Washington Township, Sugar Creek Swim Club, Ft. Worth Area Swim Team, Mission Bay, and Burke Barracudas.  Mark is an ASCA Level 5 Certified Coach and has placed swimmers in Olympic Trials Semi-Finals and on USA Swimming's National Junior Team.

Mariejo "MJ" TRUEX

PRogram operations manager

“MJ” has been with USA Swimming since 2005. She spent that quad working with USA Swimming’s National Team Division. She was part of the Performance Science and Technology Services Team where she was able to work closely with the National Team athletes and coaches. Among her duties included video-taping, video and race analysis, lactate testing, providing nutrition information and club visits. She has been part of the technical staff for the 2006 Short Course Worlds, 2006 Pan Pacs, 2007 Pan Ams, 2008 Short Course Worlds, and 11 Fina World Youth Championships Teams. 

Mariejo Truex (small)


MJ moved into the Club Development Division and served as a Sports Performance Consultant for the 2009-2012 quad.  Her primary role was in the field working primarily with teams and coaches in the realm of coach and athlete education. In 2012, she became the Program Operations Manager, where she now manages programs like the Regional Coaches Clinics, Online Webinars, Camps, ePath Learning, Video projects, and the Club Development Website. 


Before coming to USA Swimming, MJ was a head coach on the collegiate level for seven years producing several All-Americans. In additional to coaching all swimming levels, she has been coaching club swimming for the past 16 years, the last nine with the Colorado Springs Swim Team. In addition to swimming, she has also coached cycling and triathlon. MJ is a graduate of New York University where she completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate work.
