SPORT DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANTS
USA Swimming's Sport Development Consultants provide a conduit for coaches and LSC officers to gain professional management skills. Through discussions and/or formal presentations, consultants identify appropriate USA Swimming programming and its utilization, including board governance, Club Leadership/Business Management Schools, and parent and coach education. There is no fee for this service. Interested clubs should contact USA Swimming's Club Development Division
Peter has 35 years of on deck coaching experience. He earned a Master's Degree from Southern Methodist University in Sport Administration. Peter’s coaching experience includes NCAA Division I head coaching at the University of Louisiana Monroe, YMCA/USA experience with the Kansas City YMCA, and High School in Albany, NY and Marshall, MN. In addition, Peter was the head coach of Trident Swim Club in Lancaster PA where he coached Olympic Trial qualifiers and US national finalists. Peter has worked outside of coaching with the Aquatic Development Group in Albany New York in pool design and equipment sales. As a Sport Development Consultant for USA Swimming Peter has worked successfully with LSCs and teams throughout the Eastern Zone.
Randy Julian has been with USA Swimming since May of 2002. His focus is with the coaches, teams and the LSC’s of the Central Zone. He is also the staff liaison with the USA Swimming Disability Committee. Randy was the Head Swimming Coach at Bowling Green State University for both men and women’s swimming for seven years and assisted at The University of Notre Dame with Tim Welsh and Southern Illinois with Doug Ingram in the previous seven years. Randy also coached in the club ranks as the Head Coach of the Dads Club Swim Team in Houston, TX. where his boys won the 1985 YMCA National Title and his men’s team placed 10th at Short Course and 6th at Long Course USS Nationals that same year. From 1983 – 85, Randy was the General Chair of Gulf Swimming and also was the Chair of the Texas Senior Circuit. He is a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University (home of the Salukis) and was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.
Dave has more than 20 years of on deck coaching experience. He earned a Masters Degree from The University of Iowa. Dave's coaching experience includes NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, YMCA, AAU, USS, USA, high school and the ever popular summer league experience. In addition, Dave has worked in Paralympic sport as the first head coach of a combined disability team and has served internationally in a number of positions. Dave has also been heavily involved with open water swimming. Dave has been on numerous international trips visiting over 40 countries and 6 continents in his swimming career. Dave has also run a successful swim lesson business until taking on his current role with USA Swimming. Dave enjoys traveling through the Southern Zone and working with the coaches, athletes, parents and boards to improve our sport.
Bill came to USA Swimming in November 2007 after 27 years as Head Coach of the Westport Weston Family Y in Westport, CT. Bill is an ASCA Level 5 Age Group Coach with many of his swimmers ranking nationally, and many State and Zone record holders. Bill earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Southern Connecticut State University where he was an All-American swimmer and water polo player. SCSU inducted Bill into its Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. Bill also held many leadership positions as a volunteer in the swimming community. He was YMCA League President, member of the USA Swimming Safety Education Committee, and was General Chairman of Connecticut Swimming. Bill is the Sport Development Consultant for the Western Zone.
