McDermott carries winning streak into second day of Junior Nationals  (12/12/2008)  

Amber McDermott continued her winning streak on Day 2 of the 2008 Speedo Junior Nationals in Austin, Texas. After collecting two wins on the first night of competition, McDermott kicked off the second night with a meet record in the women’s 400y IM with a time of 4:11.36.

 

McDermott also swam in the women’s 200y freestyle just two events later, finishing fifth in a time of 1:48.65. The win went to Lauren Driscoll in a meet record time of 1:46.01.

 

In other events, meet records continued to shatter. Mason Shaw took down the men’s 400y IM with a winning time of 3:50.45. Sean Fletcher also scored gold in the men’s 100y butterfly when he posted a time of 47.72. Lily Modenhauer also erased the women's 100y fly meet record with a time of 53.17.

 

Andrew Novakoff was responsible for the sixth meet record of the evening with his time of 1:37.38 in the men’s 200y free. Katie Edwards posted a blistering 1:00.83 to win the women’s 100y breaststroke in meet record time.

 

While Cody Miller and Matt Elliott were tied heading into finals of the 100y breast title, it was Miller who emerged with the victory in meet record time of 54.38. Cole Cragin took home the final individual win of the day, lowering the previous meet record to 48.51 in the men’s 100y backstroke. Deborah Roth won the women's 100y back in 53.55.

 

The meet concludes Saturday with the men's and women's 1650y free, 200y back, 100y free, 200y breast and 200y fly.
