USA Swimming Announces 2013 World University Games Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming announced today the roster of 39 swimmers that will represent Team USA at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia. The swimming competition will take place July 10-16, while the Games will run from July 6-17.
The 2013 U.S. Team will feature a number of current and past NCAA Champions including Austin Surhoff (Cockeysville, Md.), Megan Romano (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Ashley Steenvoorden (East Brunswick, N.J.), Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill.), Kevin Cordes (Naperville, Ill.), Michael McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas), Melanie Margalis (Clearwater, Fla.) and Adam Small (Tempe, Ariz.). Taking place every two years, the World University Games are an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International Sports Federation (FISU). Swimmers on the 2013 World University Games Team roster were selected based upon their performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships. All athletes selected for the team must be at least 17 years old and less than 28 years old on January 1, 2013.
