USA Swimming Names Roster for FINA World Junior Championships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming today announced its roster of the 36 of the nation’s top up-and-coming swimmers who will represent the United States at the fourth FINA World Junior Championships on Aug. 26-31 in Dubai, UAE.
Leading the way for the U.S. will be the individual high point-scorers from this month’s Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif. – Mission Viejo Nadadores’ Kathryn McLaughlin (Dana Point, Calif.) and Dynamo Swim Club’s Gunnar Bentz (Atlanta, Ga.).
Fresh off winning five medals at Junior Nationals, McLaughlin qualified individually for Worlds in the 50m free, 200m free, 100m fly and 200m fly. Bentz, who won six medals at Junior Nationals, will swim four individual events at Worlds – the 100m breast, 200m breast, 200m IM and 400m IM.
Additionally, Clearwater Aquatic Team’s Becca Mann (Saint Petersburg, Ill.) will swim four individual events – the 400m free, 800m free, 200m fly and 400m IM. Last month, she placed eighth in both the open water 5K and 10K at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
Qualifying for three individual events apiece were SwimMAC Carolina’s Kathleen Baker (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who will swim the 100m back, 200m back and 200m IM, and Bolles School Sharks’ Caeleb Dressel (Glen Cove Springs, Fla.), who will swim the 50m free, 100m free and 200m free.

Paul Yetter will serve as men’s head coach, with Steve Brown, Adam Cooper and John Flanagan serving as men’s assistants. Jason Turcotte is the women’s head coach, with Kate Lundsten, Mike Laitala and Pam Swander serving as women’s assistants.
USA Swimming selected its roster based on the results of 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships, 2013 U.S. Open and 2013 Speedo Junior National Championships. Complete selection procedures for the 2013 FINA World Junior Championships are available at usaswimming.org.
