Speedo Junior Nationals Opens Next Week in Irvine


Nearly 1,100 of America’s top up-and-coming swimmers will participate next week at USA Swimming’s 2014 Speedo Junior National Championships, beginning Wednesday, July 30, at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California. 

The five-day meet, which runs through Sunday, Aug. 3, will consist of daily prelims at 9 a.m. PDT, followed by finals at 6 p.m. Complete meet information, including a detailed schedule of events, can be found online at usaswimming.org

Among the standout swimmers expected to compete in Irvine are a number of USA Swimming National Junior Team members, including 2013 FINA World Junior Championships gold medalists Ella Eastin (Irvine, Calif.), Caeleb Dressel (Green Cove Springs, Fla.), Katie McLaughlin (Dana Point, Calif.) and Andrew Seliskar (McLean, Va.) and Kylie Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.). 

In addition, Team USA 2014 Youth Olympic Team members Courtney Mykkanen (Tustin, Calif.), Patrick Conaton (Larchmont, N.Y.), Patrick Mulcare (Tigard, Ore.), and Justin Wright (Fresno, Calif.) are expected to compete in preparation for next month’s Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. 

Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased online at novaquatics.org/tickets. Additionally, a live stream of the entire meet will be made available online at usaswimming.org.

All competitors at Speedo Junior Nationals must be age 18 or under on the first day of the competition, and each participant met qualifying standards to earn a spot in the meet.
