Jessica Hardy Named 2016 Swim-A-Thon Contest Ambassador

The USA Swimming Foundation is thrilled to announce Olympic gold medalist Jessica Hardy as the 2016 Swim-a-Thon Contest Ambassador. Hardy is a 2012 Olympian, winning a gold medal in the 4x100 Medley Relay and bronze in the 4x100 Freestyle Relay at the 2012 London Games.

Launched in 2013, the USA Swimming Foundation’s national Swim-a-Thon contest was designed to create unparalleled excitement and new levels of Swim-a-Thon athlete participation, allowing teams across the country to compete against each other for valuable prize packages.

As this years’ Swim-a-Thon Contest Ambassador, Jessica will make a personal club visit to the Grand Prize winner of the 2016 USA Swimming Foundation Swim-a-Thon Contest in 2017. In addition to Hardy’s visit, the lucky club will receive a year’s worth of SwimOffice licensing fees from the USA Swimming Foundation’s official online fundraising partner, TeamUnify and a host of other valuable prizes.

Two-time Grand Prize contest winner Rose Bowl Aquatics will receive a visit from Elizabeth Beisel this year, and in 2014, Rose Bowl Aquatics received a visit from Olympic medalist Conor Dwyer. 2013 Grand Prize winner, Katy Aquatics was the lucky recipient of a club visit from two-time Olympic gold medalist, Ricky Berens in 2014.

Teams hosting a USA Swimming Foundation Swim-a-Thon in 2015 raised an astounding $7.2 Million to help offset the cost of training equipment, pool time, coach education and salaries, team travel, video equipment, starting blocks, and much more.

As a result of the extraordinary fundraising efforts from more than 546 teams, the USA Swimming Foundation received $362,000, garnered from 5% of the Swim-a-Thon gross proceeds collected in 2015. These funds are directed to Swim-a-Thon prize fulfillment, grant awards to Make a Splash Local Partners to bring the lifesaving gift of free or low-cost swim lessons to children across the country, resources for promotion of the national Make a Splash Tour presented by Phillips 66, and support to our U.S. National Swim Team.
