USA Swimming Foundation Names Four Organizations to Make a Splash Affiliate Coalition

9/6/2012

The USA Swimming Foundation has partnered with four water safety organizations to help spread the message of the Foundation’s Make a Splash initiative. Make a Splash is the national, child-focused water safety initiative of the USA Swimming Foundation.

The new “Affiliate Coalition” program provides the opportunity for organizations to partner with the Foundation in spreading the message that all children must learn to swim. While partnerships vary in content, Affiliate Coalition members agree to provide a service to Make a Splash and/or offer a platform for the Foundation’s message of water safety.

On September 6, the USA Swimming Foundation named its first four Affiliate Coalition members. They are: Starfish Aquatics, Goggles for Guppies, The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation and the National Water Safety Congress.

Partnership details are as follows:

Starfish Aquatics will serve as a resource to the USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash local partners, providing materials in the areas of risk management, emergency action plans, water safety day templates and other educational opportunities. Based in Savannah, Ga., Starfish Aquatics was created by former coaches Robin and Jill White.

Goggles for Guppies has been named as the official equipment distributor for the Make a Splash initiative. Its purpose is to solicit donations of swim gear such as goggles, caps, fins and kickboards and distribute this learn-to-swim equipment to Make a Splash local partner organizations. Goggles for Guppies was created by twin swimmers Matthew and Christopher Hales of Southern California.

The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation will provide 100 “Josh the Baby Otter” storybook at no cost for use at water safety events hosted by Make a Splash local partners or by USA Swimming’s “SWIMpact” athlete community appearance program.

The National Water Safety Congress will work with the USA Swimming Foundation in the interest of providing safe access and safe passage for all water-based recreational enthusiasts. Specifically the NWSC will promote the USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash Local Partner program on its website and to its partners, and will waive educational / certificate training expenses for select Make a Splash Local Partner staff members and instructors.

The USA Swimming Foundation is looking to grow its Affiliate Coalition Partnership program. If your organization is interested in helping spread the life-saving message of Make a Splash, please contact Harriett Navarre at hnavarre@usaswimming.org.
