Pelton sets American record in the 200 back at NCAAs


Elizabeth Pelton celebrates her meet record in the 200m back at 2011 Pan Ams.U.S. National Teamer Elizabeth Pelton of the University of California set the American, U.S. Open, NCAA and NCAA Championship meet record in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday at the NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Her time was 1:47.84.

She was one of five U.S. National Teamers  to win each of the five individual events on the third and final day of competition.

Also winning events Saturday were Olympic silver medalist Haley Anderson of USC in the 1650y free (15:45.98),  National Teamer Margo Geer of Arizona in the 100y free (47.19), Laura Sogar of Texas in the 200y breaststroke (2:05.41) and Olympian Cammile Adams of Texas A&M in the 200y butterfly (1:52.61).

Olympic gold medalists Shannon Vreeland and Allison Schmitt teamed up with National Teamer Megan Romano and Canadian Chantal Van Lendeghem to set the U.S. Open, NCAA and Championship record in the 400y free relay for Georgia in 3:09.40.

The University of Georgia took home the team title with 477 points, followed by the University of California with 393 points and Tennessee with 323.5 points.
