COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin is among the big names who will attend the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 Warrior Games presented by Deloitte, an Olympic-style event for wounded servicemen and women.
The six-day sports competition kicks off May 11 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Franklin – four-time gold medalist and bronze medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games – will be among four U.S. Olympians and Paralympians to spectate and lend support to the 260 athletes participating that day.
Joining Franklin are three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor; two-time Paralympic sitting volleyball silver medalist and retired U.S. Army Kari Miller; and two-time Paralympic swimming gold medalist and silver medalist U.S. Navy Lt. Brad Snyder.
In addition, British Prince Harry will also attend Saturday’s Opening Ceremony.
The Warrior Games has been held in Franklin’s home-state since 2010, and last year, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at the Opening Ceremony.
The event runs until May 16 and features athletes from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations and British Armed Forces.
