USA Continues to Dominate at FINA World Cup

For the second night in a row, Team USA dominated at the FINA World Cup in Berlin. Jessica Hardy had her best night yet, with two first-place finishes in both the 50m breast and the 4x50m free relay, in addition to a second place finish in the 100m free. In the 50m breast, Hardy touched the wall at 30.13, grabbing first and proving her dominance in that event. She took second in the 100m free with a time of 53.00. The 4x50m free relay of Anthony Ervin, Tom Shields, Jessica Hardy and Kylie Stewart snagged first in a time of 1:31.16. Ervin also placed first in the 50m free, touching in a time of 20.85.

Teammate Kylie Stewart had a big night as well, swimming three events and placing in the top eight for all of them. In the 100m free, Stewart placed seventh, with a time of 54.93. Stewart also swam the 100m back, placing fifth in a time of 59.44, just behind teammate Kaitlyn Jones, who grabbed third at 58.91. Jones also swam the 100m IM, placing seventh with a time of 1:02.04.

Fourteen- year-old Becca Mann placed third in the 400m IM with a time of 4:37.03. Mann also swam the 400m free, placing third in a time of 4:05.21, just behind teammate Leah Smith, who finished second in 4:04.86. The women’s 200m fly went well for Team USA, with Celia Li touching third in 2:07.16 and Michelle Cefal rounding out the field at 2:10.98, placing fifth.

Last but not least, Sean Mahoney had an impressive night as well, placing fourth in the 100m breast with a time of 58.60.
