Simone Manuel twice sets American record in 100y free


Simone Manuel (small)U.S. National Team member Simone Manuel of Sugar Land, Texas, broke the American record in the women’s 100-yard freestyle twice over the weekend while competing at the National Age Group Swimming Association’s Junior National Championships.


Manuel broke the first record in the prelims of the 100y freestyle, her time of 46.83, edging the former record of 46.84, set in 2011 by Natalie Coughlin, by a hundredth of a second.


Manuel then broke that record again leading off First Colony Swim Team’s 400y freestyle relay in 46.75. Both swims also set the 17-18 national age group record.
