Meyer finishes third at 10K race in Eilat, Israel


Alex Meyer (small)Olympic open water swimmer Alex Meyer placed third on Friday at the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup meet in Eilat, Israel, touching in 1 hour, 53 minutes, 38.00 seconds. His time was just 8 and a half seconds behind winner Christian Reichert of Germany (1:53:29.50) and about four-seconds behind runner-up Thomas Lurz, also of Germany (1:53:34.05). He was the only American to compete in the men’s race.


On the women’s side, American Christine Jennings was fourth in 2:02:55.59, while Heidi George finished 21st in 2:06:06.25. Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil won the women’s race in 2:02:53.15.
