Jaeger helps set U.S. Open record in 800 free relay
Olympian and U.S. National Team member Connor Jaeger anchored the University of Michigan’s record-setting 800-yard free relay Wednesday at the Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Ann Arbor. Jaeger, along with teammates Anders Nielsen, Michael Wynalda and Justin Glanda set an NCAA, U.S. Open, meet and conference record with a time of 6:09.85. It bested the previous NCAA and U.S. Open record of 6:10.16, set by the University of Texas’ David Walters, Ricky Berens, Scott Jostes and Michael Klueh in 2010. The former meet and conference record, set by Nielsen, Wynalda, Jaeger and Kyle Whitaker last year, stood at 6:13.70.
In other college news, Olympian Missy Franklin and U.S. National Teamer Elizabeth Pelton teamed up with Rachel Acker and Caroline Piehl to help the University of California’s 800-yeard free relay break the Pac 12 meet record with a time of 6:53.57.
