Olympic open water swimmer Alex Meyer placed third on Friday at the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup meet in Eilat, Israel, touching in 1 hour, 53 minutes, 38.00 seconds. His time was just 8 and a half seconds behind winner Christian Reichert of Germany (1:53:29.50) and about four-seconds behind runner-up Thomas Lurz, also of Germany (1:53:34.05). He was the only American to compete in the men’s race.
On the women’s side, American Christine Jennings was fourth in 2:02:55.59, while Heidi George finished 21st in 2:06:06.25. Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil won the women’s race in 2:02:53.15.
