Nearly 1,000 Swimmers Ready for 2013 U.S. Open


The 2013 U.S. Open will host nearly 1000 swimmers from around the world July 30-Aug. 3 at the William Woollett,US Open (small) Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif. Two-time Olympians Cullen Jones (Irvington, N.J.) and Amanda Weir (Atlanta, Ga.) will headline the event.

Other Olympic medalists scheduled to swim include Tyler McGill (Champaign, Ill.), Lia Neal (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif.) Anderson is fresh off a gold medal in the 5k at the FINA Open Water Championships in Barcelona.

California-native Anderson will be joined by notable Southern California’s Cindy Tran (Westminster, Calif.), Janardana Burns (Aliso Viejo, Calif.), David Heron (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif.).

The meet will also host more than 100 international swimmers, including South Africa’s Roland Schoeman, Sebastian Rousseau and Darian Townsend and Japan’s Noriko Inada.

The action begins Tuesday, July 30 with prelims at 9 a.m. PT. The competition, which will run through Aug. 3, will feature prelims at 9 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. Tickets are required for all sessions and are on sale now via the Novaquatics website.

A live webcast of the entire meet will be streamed online via and the Deck Pass Plus mobile application.

The U.S. Open, which is making its first-ever visit to California, was first held in 1985. In 2012, the meet was held in Indianapolis.
