Larson breaks meet record on second night of NCAAs

Breeja Larson 165U.S. Olympian Breeja Larson of Texas A&M University set the meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday at the NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, turning in a time of 57.63.

Larson was one of four U.S. Olympians to win individual events Friday. Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Beisel of the University of Florida took the 400y IM in 4:00.49, while Olympic gold medalist Allison Schmitt of the University of Georgia won the 200y free in 1:41.85. Olympic gold medalist Rachel Bootstma of the University of California won the 100y back in 50.13.

Schmitt and fellow Olympic gold medalist Shannon Vreeland teamed up with Megan Romano and Brittany MacLean on Georgia’s 800 free relay for the win in 6:54.43.

After the second night of competition, Georgia led the team scoring with 300 points, followed by Cal with 285 points and Tennessee with 263.5 points.
