2013 World University Games Roster Finalized
USA Swimming today finalized its roster of 42 swimmers for the 2013 World University Games slated for July 10-17 in Kazan, Russia. The roster features 22 male and 20 female swimmers.
Megan Romano (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill.) highlight the U.S. roster. Romano won gold as a member of the 4x200 meter freestyle relay at the 2011 World University Games and recently won three medals at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Alexandrov captured the 2010 national championship in the 100 breaststroke. A complete roster is available online at usaswimming.org.
Taking place every two years, the World University Games are an international, multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International Sports Federation. Swimmers were selected to the 2013 World University Games Team roster based on their performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships and the 2013 Open Water National Championships. All athletes selected for the team must be at least 17 years old and less than 28 years old on January 1, 2013. Additional guidelines can be found here.
