Team Captains Named for 2022 FINA World Championships

L-R: Ryan Murphy, Lilly King, Leah Smith, Natalie Hinds, Caeleb Dressel

While at the team's training camp in Rijeka, Croatia, the 41 members of the U.S. swimming team for the 2022 FINA World Championships voted upon Caeleb Dressel, Natalie Hinds, Lilly King, Ryan Murphy and Leah Smith to be team captains for the upcoming competition.

Murphy and Dressel will captain the U.S. men's swimming team for a second consecutive international event after earning titles at last summer's Olympic Games Tokyo.

"It's an incredible honor," Murphy said. "I think whenever I'm in a position like this, I think back to my first [international] teams and how much I looked up to guys like Nathan Adrian, Anthony Ervin, Michael Phelps — there are so many incredible people who have been in this role. It is truly an honor to follow in their footsteps."

For the women's team, Hinds and King will make their captain debuts for a U.S. international team. Smith's most recent captaincy came at the 2019 FINA World Championships.

"I'm super honored to have been named a captain," Smith said. "I'm really proud of my other fellow captains. I think we're going to bring a lot of experience and fond memories with us to Budapest. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together and with the team."

The pool competition of the 2022 FINA World Championships will take place June 18-25 in Budapest, Hungary. All additional information can be found at www.usaswimming.org/2022worlds.
