2022 Golden Goggles at a Glance: Female Race of the Year

The 2022 Golden Goggle Awards are set to take place in New York City on Monday, September 21, 2022. With the voting deadline of September 30 quickly approaching, here is a breakdown of the nominees for this year's Female Race of the Year award:

Torri Huske, 100 fly
The 100m butterfly marked Huske’s FINA World Championships debut, and with her American-record and gold-medal-winning time of 55.64 in the final, she became the first American under the age of 23 to medal in the event at the competition.

Lilly King, 200 breast
King’s 2:22.41 swim in the 200m breaststroke final gave the veteran breaststroke swimmer her first world title in the event in three attempts.

Katie Ledecky, 800 free
With an 8:08.04, more than 10 seconds ahead of the field, Ledecky became the first female swimmer to ever win five-consecutive world titles in a single event.

Regan Smith, 100 back
After winning bronze at last summer’s Olympic Games, Smith captured gold in the 100m backstroke at this year’s World Championships with a time of 58.22. The swim gave the U.S. its first gold in the event since Missy Franklin in 2013.

Alex Walsh, 200 IM
Walsh became just the third American to medal in 200m IM since 2009 with her 2:07.13 gold-medal winning swim in Budapest. The time was more than a second ahead of the field and was the only performance in the field under the 2:08 barrier.
