Brunemann, Fabian go 1-2 in Brazil


Emily BrunemannAmericans Emily Brunemann and Eva Fabian took 1-2 this past weekend at the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup meet in Santos, Brazil.


Brunemann topped the women’s field of 36 swimmers with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, 18.04 seconds. Fabian finished about 30 seconds behind in 2:11:48.06. Italy’s Rachele Bruni was third in 2:11:50.12.


Other American women competing in the race included Ashley Twichell (7th, 2:11:51.88), Christine Jennings (10th, 2:11:53.47) and Heidi George (19th, 2:14:00.18).


On the men’s side, Yoelvis Pedraza was the top American swimmer, finishing 33rd in 2:05:02.17. Olympian Alex Meyer was 37th in 2:06:39.18, followed by David Heron in 38th place in 2:06:58.36.
