Greensboro Set to Host Over 1,200 Swimmers at Speedo Junior Nationals


National titles will be on the line for more than 1,200 of the country’s top up-and-coming swimmers this week at USA Swimming’s 2013 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships, which opens Thursday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The three-day, short-course yards meet will consist of prelims at 9 a.m. ET, followed by finals at 5 p.m. ET Thursday through Saturday. Tickets for each individual session will be available at the Greensboro Aquatic Center main box office and through

Among the standout swimmers expected to compete in Greensboro are USA Swimming National Team members Kathleen Baker (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Megan Kingsley (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and Gunnar Bentz (Atlanta, Ga.).

All competitors must be age 18 or under on the first day of the competition, and each participant met qualifying standards to earn a spot in the meet.

During Friday’s finals session, Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin (Valencia, Calif.) will meet fans for autographs and pictures between 7-8 p.m. ET.
