USA Swimming provides support for up to eight Swimposiums per year; LSCs are eligible to request funding every three years.
USA Swimming provides partial funding for:
- the attendance of an Olympic athlete and
- up to two staff members to present at clinics throughout the event.
LSCs can add more staff sessions by funding their travel.
The LSC shall provide:
- schedule of event,
- remaining cost for athlete(s),
- all room/pool costs for the event,
- food and drinks,
- all local coordination, marketing, and registration of the event, and
- swag for participants.
A typical Swimposium schedule can include a combination of any of the following sessions, or a unique offering developed with USA Swimming staff and the LSC.
- Coaches- An all-day session with lunch provided. USA Swimming staff can present a program on one of the five areas of the American Development Model (ADM). Attendance at this session would qualify for continuing education units toward the Coach Certification Program. It should be open to coaches from other LSCs to attend.
- Athletes- An in-pool session for 12 and under athletes in the morning and an in-pool session for 13 and over athletes in the afternoon. Both sessions include an Olympian. Lunch is an included with Olympian's personal story and a Q&A for all athletes and their parents.
- Parents of 12 and Under- Half day clinic scheduled so they attend the Olympian’s personal story lunch session.
- Parents of 13 and Over- Half day clinic scheduled so they can attend the Olympian’s personal story lunch session; followed by a Q&A panel discussion of college coaches talking about college swimming. This is an extremely popular option.
- Safe Sport- USA Swimming staff speak to athletes, parents, volunteers, etc.
- DICE- USA Swimming staff speak to coaches, athletes, parents, etc.
- Officials- Topics chosen in conjunction with the LSC Officials Committee.
- Other- LSCs sometimes have ideas that reflect the current needs in the LSC
LSCs are encouraged to schedule their event in conjunction with something else such as a HOD meeting, awards banquet, etc. In general, LSC will experience better attendance as a result.
