Six Team USA Olympians and a number of USA Swimming National Team members highlight the expected field of the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series at Austin, set for Jan. 13-15 at the University of Texas’ Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Five members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team are slated to compete in Austin, including 400-meter freestyle relay gold medalist Ryan Held (Springfield, Ill./NC State University) and 200m breaststroke silver medalist Josh Prenot (Santa Maria, Calif./California Aquatics), as well as Hali Flickinger (Spring Grove, Pa./Athens Bulldog Swim Club), Jacob Pebley (Corvallis, Ore./California Aquatics) and three-time Olympian Amanda Weir (Lawrenceville, Ga./SwimAtlanta). 

Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics), 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the 100m backstroke and a two-time Olympian, is also expected to swim. In total, more than 500 swimmers will be in action.

Among the additional National Team members expected include Austin-area standout Sean Grieshop (Cedar Park, Texas/Nitro Swimming), as well as a trio of National Teamers from Texas A&M – Lisa Bratton (Richland, Wash./Texas A&M), Bethany Galat (Mishawaka, Ind./Texas A&M) and Sarah Gibson (San Antonio, Texas/Texas A&M). 

The three-day meet opens Friday, Jan. 13 and continues through Sunday, Jan. 15, with daily prelims at 9 a.m. CT followed by finals at 6 p.m. Single- and all-session tickets are on sale now online.

Television coverage from Austin will air live on NBC Sports Network on Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. All three finals session will also be streamed via NBC Sports, while a live webcast of the entire meet also will be available at usaswimming.org.

This meet is the first of five stops of the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series. 

The arena Pro Swim Series scoring system awards eligible swimmers prize money and points based on first-, second-, and third-place performances at each meet in the Championship final only. The prize money and scoring system is as follows: First place, $500 (five points); second place, $300 (three points) and third place, $100 (one point).

At 2017 Phillips 66 Nationals, the point totals will double to 10 points for first place, six for second and two points for third place. The final series tally will be computed after the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships, slated for June 27-July 1 in Indianapolis, and the prizes will be awarded at that time.

The top eligible male and female overall point total winners in the series will earn a one-year lease of a BMW vehicle, as well as a $10,000 series bonus. Complete series rules are available at usaswimming.org.
