Four Short Course Juniors Records Fall at Speedo Junior Championship Meets


Jack Levant set a Juniors West and Short Course Juniors meet record in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday at the Speedo Junior Championships – West meet in Iowa City. His time of 4:14.40 bested the former Short Course Juniors meet record of 4:14.42, set by Drew Kibler at the East meet about an hour earlier in Knoxville, Tenn.

Levant’s swim was one of two West and Junior meet records set Thursday in Iowa City. Bayley Stewart, Zoe Bartel, Coleen Gillilan and Kylee Alons of Fort Collins Area Swim Team also broke both records in the women’s 400 medley relay, turning in a time of 3:33.93.

Vanessa Pearl set a Juniors West record in the women’s 200m IM in 1:55.67.

Other winners in Iowa City included Kaitlynn Sims in the women’s 500 free (4:42.38); Shane Blinkman in the men’s 200 IM (1:46.39); Julia Cook in the women’s 50 free (22.30); Daniel Krueger in the men’s 50 free (19.48); and the Academy Bullets in the men’s 400 medley relay (3:18.00).

Meanwhile, in Knoxville, Kibler’s time stands as the East meet record. He also won the 50 free in 19.57. Alexandra Walsh set an East and Short Course Juniors meet record in the 200 IM in 1:54.02.

Other first-place finishers at the East meet were Leah Braswell in the women’s 500 free (4:39.29); Carson Foster in the men’s 200 IM (1:43.79); Gretchen Walsh in the women’s 50 free (22.00); Nashville Aquatics in the women’s 400 medley relay (3:36.68); and the Mason Manta Rays in the men’s 400 medley relay.
