COLUMBUS, Ohio – Olympic medalist and world champion Chase Kalisz (Bel Air, Md./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) doubled up with wins in the 200-meter butterfly and 200m individual medley to close out the TYR Pro Swim Series at Columbus on Sunday at Ohio State’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

Already the winner of the 200m breast and 400m IM over the past two nights, Kalisz opened his Sunday finals session by cruising to the win in the men’s 200m fly in 1 minute, 56.90 seconds – more than 2 seconds clear of the field. He followed with a 2-second win in the 200m IM in 1:58.21.

Kalisz finishes the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series unbeaten in the 200m fly, 200m IM and 400m IM across all six meets and hold the men’s series lead with 100 points heading into this month’s Phillips 66 National Championships.

“I kind of used this as a training meet. I messed around with different parts of my races and didn’t really focus on times or places or anything. I think I did a good job of that,” Kalisz said. “I ended up racing more than I ever did this season, so I think that’s good moving forward.”

Olympic medalist Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics) picked up her third win on the weekend in the women’s 800m free in 8:25.05, the seventh-fastest time in the world this year and a season best. She also won the 400m free and 400m IM in Columbus.

Also picking up win No. 3 was National Team member Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Race Pace Club) picked up his third win in Columbus, touching in a personal-best 59.79 in the men’s 100m breast. He also won the 100m fly and 50m free this weekend.

Freestyle specialist Zane Grothe (Boulder City, Nev./Mission Viejo Nadadores) took the men’s 800m free in 7:55.22 for the sixth straight time across the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series. He also won the 400m free and was second in the 200m and 1500m free in Columbus.

Also winning for a second time in Columbus was Olympian Kelsi Dahlia (Westampton, N.J./Cardinal Aquatics), who completed a butterfly sweep with a victory in the women’s 200m fly in 2:09.23. World-record holder Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana University) also swept her signature breaststroke races this weekend, taking tonight’s 100m breast in 1:06.14.

Asia Seidt (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Aquatics) also claimed her second win of the meet, taking the women’s 200m IM in a lifetime best of 2:12.63 after winning the 200m back on Saturday.  

Other Sunday winners included Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Club Wolverine) in the women’s 100m back in 1:00.38, and Japan’s Ryosuke Irie in the men’s 100m back in 53.08, the fourth-fastest time in the world this year. He won the 200m back on Saturday.

Sunday’s session concluded the six-stop 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series, and the overall series winners will be determined later this month at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, California, with double points on the line in each Olympic event.
