Andrei Minakov of the Terrapins took down another meet record in the men’s 100m fly en route to his second individual title, while 14-year-old Claire Tuggle of Clovis Swim Club picked up another win on night three at the Speedo Junior National Championships at the William Wollett Jr. Aquatic Complex in Irvine, Calif. 

Clovis’ Claire Tuggle outlasted Kensey McMahon of Bolles Swim School in a battle for the women’s 400m title with a time of 4:10.11. McMahon followed closely with a 4:10.46. Magnolia Aquatic Club’s Kaitlynn Sims rounded out the top-three finishers (4:13.37). 

With 100-meters left to go, SwimAtlanta’s Jake Magahey overtook the men’s 400m free field and never looked back. Magahey’s 3:52.32 was an almost even-split race (1:56.05/1:56.27) and a lifetime best. Carmel Swim Club’s Jake Mitchell touched in next with a 3:52.88, while Julian Hill of Gator Swim Club held on for bronze in 3:55.02. 

Three swimmers broke the 1:00 mark in the women’s 100m fly final with top qualifier Coleen Gillilan of Fort Collins Area Swim Team claiming the top spot in 59.01. Second and third place were claimed by 14-year-olds Claire Curzan of TAC Titans and Justina Kozan of Brea Aquatics after posting times of 59.85 and 59.89, respectively. 

Terrapins teammates Andrei Minakov and Alexei Sancov went 1-2 once again, this time in the men’s 100m fly. Minakov’s 51.88 erased Michael Andrew’s meet record of 52.57 set back in 2015. Sancov claimed second place in 53.28. Bluefish Swim Club’s River Wright clocked in at 53.63 for bronze in a tight race for third place. 

Another relay meet record fell as the Mason Manta Rays team of Jacob McDonald, Jake Foster, Carson Foster and Adam Chaney posted a 7:26.74 in the men’s 4x200m free relay. The previous mark was set by Indiana University (7:28.28) in 2014. SwimAtlanta (7:31.79) and the Terrapins (7:33.85) rounded out the top three. 

Through three days of competition, the hometown club of Irvine Novaquatics remains in lead of the team race with 173 points, followed by SwimMAC Carolina (169 points) and the Mason Manta Rays (139 points). The Terrapins lead the men’s standings with 146 points. North Baltimore Aquatic Club holds onto the top spot in the women's standings with 103 points.
