U.S. Adds Two Relay Silvers, Takes Team Title at Open Water World Juniors


EILAT, Israel – The United States won silver medals in both team 4x1250-meter relay competitions on Saturday to wrap up the 2018 FINA World Junior Open Water Championships held in the Red Sea.

With Saturday’s showing Team USA also secured the team title with 130 points, 14 ahead of runner-up France. The Americans also finished the three-day competition atop the medal table with five medals – two gold, two silver and one bronze.   

In the 4x1250m relay for ages 14-16, the U.S. quartet of Chase Travis (Newark, Del./Nation’s Capital Swim Club), Connor Hunt (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield Aquatic Club), Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Northern Kentucky Clippers) and Jackson Carlile (Fishers, Ind./Fishers Area Swimming Tigers) touched second in 57 minutes, 31.8 seconds. Hungary took the title in 56:48.1.

In the open 4x1250m relay, the United States again placed second, finishing in 56:06.7 behind gold medalist France’s 55:39.9 effort. Representing Team USA were Erica Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), Brennan Gravley (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), Kensey McMahon (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School Sharks) and Michael Brinegar (Columbus, Ind./Mission Viejo Nadadores).
