BUENOS AIRES – Rhyan White (Herriman, Utah/Wasatch Front Fish Market) won Team USA’s first medal in the pool at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games on Monday, taking bronze in the women’s 100-meter backstroke in 1 minute, 0.60 seconds.

Monday's women's 100m back final was a tight race with all three podium finishers separated by just 0.15 seconds. Russia’s Daria Vaskina won gold in 1:00.45, followed by Kaylee McKeown in second in 1:00.58 and Rhyan White in the bronze-medal position in 1:00.60.
In other finals on Monday, Team USA was fifth in the women’s 400m medley relay in 4;16.79 and Jake Johnson (Lincoln University, Pa./Delaware Swim Team) finished eighth in the men’s 200m individual medley in 2:05.39.
Rhyan White just missed out on a second medal of the Youth Olympic Games, as she placed fourth in the women's 200m back in 2:10.95.
In the women's 800m freestyle a pair of Americans placed in top eight with Kaitlynn Sims (Montgomery, Texas/Magnolia Aquatic Club) sixth in 8:46.40 and Madelyn Donohoe (Annandale, Va./The Fish) seventh in 8:48.96. The men's 400m free relay was seventh in 3:30.35.
Rhyan White posted her third top-four finish in the women's backstroke events with a time of 28.86 in the women's 50m back final. The women's 400m free relay placed fifth with a time of 3:53.32.
