Ledecky the First Official Qualifier for 2020 Olympic Trials


The qualifying period for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials began today.

And after turning in a time of 8:14.40 to win the women’s 800m freestyle at the 2018 Winter National Championships, Katie Ledecky officially became the first swimmer to attain a Trials cut.

In all, eight American swimmers in the women’s 800 free qualified for Trials today at Winter Nationals.

In addition to Ledecky, those swimming under the qualifying time of 8:48.09 were:

  • Ashley Twichell, 8:28.16
  • Erica Sullivan, 8:29.02
  • Kaersten Meitz, 8:37.11
  • Chase Travis, 8:38.84
  • Emma Weyant, 8:41.30
  • Paige McKenna, 8:46.76
  • Summer Smith, 8:47.20
Six men earned their Trials cut in the 800. Americans swimming under the qualifying time of 8:12.99 were:

  • Jordan Wilimovsky, 7:56.88
  • Brennan Gravley, 8:09.95
  • Ross Dant, 8:10.99
  • Lleyton Plattel, 8:12.02
  • Dare Rose, 8:12.36
  • Calvin David, 8:12.56
