Ledecky the First Official Qualifier for 2020 Olympic Trials

The qualifying period for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials began today.

And after turning in a time of 8:14.40 to win the women’s 800m freestyle at the 2018 Winter National Championships, Katie Ledecky officially became the first swimmer to attain a Trials cut.

In all, eight American swimmers in the women’s 800 free qualified for Trials today at Winter Nationals.

In addition to Ledecky, those swimming under the qualifying time of 8:48.09 were:

Ashley Twichell, 8:28.16
Erica Sullivan, 8:29.02
Kaersten Meitz, 8:37.11
Chase Travis, 8:38.84
Emma Weyant, 8:41.30
Paige McKenna, 8:46.76
Summer Smith, 8:47.20

Six men earned their Trials cut in the 800. Americans swimming under the qualifying time of 8:12.99 were:

Jordan Wilimovsky, 7:56.88

Brennan Gravley, 8:09.95

Ross Dant, 8:10.99

Lleyton Plattel, 8:12.02

Dare Rose, 8:12.36

Calvin David, 8:12.56
