The Adams Family maintained its overall lead, but both the Jaeg-Train and the DiRad Squad inched closer in the #usaswimsquads competition this past weekend at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Richmond.

The DiRad Squad scored 82.5 points to lead the pack at this meet, with the Jaeg-Train just a half-point behind with 82 points. The Adams Family had a decent showing with 74 points, followed by the Beisel Bunch with 60.

With three stops on the TYR Pro Swim Series behind them, the Adams Family finds itself on top with 268 points, followed by the Jaeg-Train with 230 points, the DiRad Squad with 209.5 points and the Beisel Bunch with 205 points. The team with the most points at the end of the TYR Pro Swim Series (and the Open Water National Championships) will not only earn bragging rights, but win $10,000 for the charity of the captain’s choice.

Here’s what went right – and wrong – for each of the teams in Richmond:

The DiRad Squad

Captain Maya DiRado scored big in the backstroke, freestyle and IM. Backstroker Ryan Murphy won both the 100 and 200 back, adding 20 points to his team’s cause, while Chase Kalisz won the 400 IM and the finished second in the 200 IM for 18 points. Simone Manuel won the 100 free and tied for second in the 50 free for 17.5 points. Nic Fink was also solid, scoring 15 points with in the 100 and 200 breast. Hannah Moore contributed 10 points with a win in the 1500 free. If there was a weak spot for DiRado this time around, it was in the butterfly, where the team scored just two points.

The Jaeg-Train

Connor Jaeger saw his squad score a perfect 20 points in three disciplines, with two wins by Katie Ledecky in the freestyle, two wins by Annie Lazor in the breaststroke and two wins by Caeleb Dressel in the butterfly. Their only downfall? Zero points in the IM.

The Adams Family

Cammile Adams saw only one 20-point performance, from Olivia Smoliga in the backstroke. But Kelsi Dahlia got her 18 points in the butterfly and Michael Andrew won 16 points in the flex spot. Her biggest setback was in the IM, where the team scored 0 points.

The Beisel Bunch

First, the plusses – Zane Grothe score 18 points in the freestyle events, as did Hali Flickinger in the flex spot. But Beisel left a lot of points on the table with goose eggs in three events – the 50 back, 100 fly and 200 IM.
