The USA Swimming Foundation Make a Splash Tour continued this week with stops in San Diego and Corpus Christi, Texas.
USA Swimming Ambassadors Josh Davis, Rowdy Gaines, Ryan Murphy and Jordan Wilimovsky were all on hand for the Make a Splash Tour Stop June 3 in San Diego, where they visited the Birch Aquarium with local children, attended a press conference and in-pool swim clinic at the Copley Price YMCA, attended a donor luncheon at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, and appeared at a beach event in partnership with Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego.
Josh and Rowdy were joined by Cullen Jones June 5 in Corpus Christi. There, they spoke at a press conference and conducted a swim lesson at the Portland Aquatic Center, lunched with key local officials at Water Street Market, took photos at the USS Lexington, attended a meet and greet with an Aqua-Tots franchise, and threw out the first pitch at the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball game.
Here’s a look at two jam-packed days on the tour:
Monday, June 3 – San Diego, Calif.
Morning Stop: Birch Aquarium
Josh, Rowdy and Ryan visit Birch Aquarium with local children to demonstrate swim techniques and compare how aquatic animals and humans swim.
Morning Stop #2: Press Conference and in-pool swim clinic at Copley Price YMCA.
The athletes speak to the importance of learning to swim and water safety, followed by an in-pool clinic.
Lunch: Donor luncheon at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
Afternoon Stop: Beach Event in partnership with Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego.
Children and Ambassadors had the opportunity to learn from lifeguards at four different stations, including boogie boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, and surfing.
Wednesday, June 5 – Corpus Christi, Texas
Morning Stop: Press Conference and in-water swim lesson at Portland Aquatic Center.
Press conference indoors, followed by swim clinic outside.
Afternoon Stop #1: Lunch with key local officials at Water Street Market, including presenting partner Phillips 66 and local representatives.
Afternoon Stop #2: Photo opportunity at USS Lexington.
Afternoon Stop #3: Meet-and-greet with a local Aqua-Tots franchise. Aqua-Tots is a Make a Splash Affiliate Partner.
Evening Stop: Corpus Christi Hooks Baseball Game at Whataburger Field.
Cullen and Josh both sported jerseys with the numbers on their backs representing their gold medal years in the Olympics. Cullen threw out the first pitch.
