ATLANTA – New Jersey swimmer Destin Lasco (Pleasantville, N.J. / Salvation Army Kroc Aquatics) has been selected as a Phillips 66 Hometown Lasco_p66-Hometown-Hero-TUSOHero for the Toyota U.S. Open in Atlanta, Georgia. Phillips 66 is proud to highlight swimming talent from hometowns throughout the country.

Lasco, a high school senior who has committed to swimming at the University of California, Berkley next year, was entered in six events in Atlanta: the 50, 100 and 200-meter freestyle, the 100 and 200m backstroke, as well as the 200m individual medley. He recorded his top finish in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 18th place in 2:02.43.  (Complete Results)

“It’s always an amazing experience coming to an event like the Toyota U.S. Open,” Lasco said. “Just seeing everyone from an international stage, it’s kind of different from your U.S. Nationals or Winter Nationals. Seeing big names like Caeleb Dressel and Simone [Manuel], getting to see them race and race with them definitely inspires you to want to race better and achieve your goals.”

Lasco ranked among the top-10 in the country for juniors last season in the men’s 100m free, 200m IM and 100m back. He’s also a member of the men’s National Junior Team. Lasco’s high school team, Mainland Regional, is the defending New Jersey state champions, and he’s been named Press Boys swimmer of the Year by The Press of Atlantic City three times running.

This season, Lasco has dedicated his training to swimming with PRD Swimming for Success of Philadelphia to prepare for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming in Omaha, Nebraska next summer.

“It’s an awesome feeling competing here because my hometown really supports me,” Lasco said. “It’s really nice because my high school let me take classes over the summer for senior year so I could have a lighter course load this year. The teachers are super supportive, and it’s so nice to have people supporting you because it makes it that much easier and takes the pressure off you.”

Phillips 66 has been a longtime supporter of USA Swimming and the USA Swimming Foundation, with the longest-running partnership in national governing body history. In 2023, the two organizations will celebrate 50 years of partnership.
