Austin Swim Club in Austin, Texas earned a silver ranking in the 2020 Club Excellence program rankings.

With 320 swimmers on the team ranging from pre-team to senior level, head coach Chris Coghill believes a strong focus on both team and individual goals has led to the club’s success in recent years.

“While Club Excellence placement is not one of our primary goals that we set out to achieve, it tends to be a result of successfully delivering on our other objectives,” said Coghill. “On a daily basis, we work to make sure every member of Austin Swim Club finds value and respect for their personal goals.

“Next, we work to build a stronger sense of team at every practice and competition, working together to achieve a team and individual goals. When the entire team works together to achieve each others’ goals, Club Excellence is a wonderful side effect!”

Coghill outlines three other keys to the team’s success in this week’s Club Excellence spotlight:

  1. Wonderful community of swimmers and parents who support each other, are knowledgeable and trusting of the process and respectful of every teammate’s goals and journey.
  2. Collaborative and creative coaches that work every day to understand and connect with the individuals they have the privilege of coaching, not just the swimmers.
  3. Good old focused and thoughtful hard work, with some fun sprinkled in on top
