Sullivan Breaks Pool Record on First Night of TYR Pro Swim in Knoxville

Night one of the TYR Pro Swim Series kicked off in Nashville, Tenn., with Erica Sullivan and Alexander Norgaard taking home the women’s and men’s 800m freestyle titles.

Sullivan, who swims for Sandpipers of Nevada, stopped the clock at 8:29.75 to break the Allan Jones Aquatic Center pool record, which had stood at 8:32.27. Boilermaker Aquatics’ Kaersten Meitz placed second in 8:31.85, also under the previous pool record. Lakeside Swim Team’s Mariah Denigan rounded out the top three in 8:35.07.

On the men’s side, Denmark’s Alexander Norgaard cleared eight minutes with a 7:59.63 to outdistance runner-up Zane Grothe of Boulder City Henderson, who finished in 8:03.21. Taylor Abbott, competing in his home pool at the University of Tennessee, grabbed third in 8:05.51.

Preliminary action gets underway at 9:30 EST Friday morning, with finals scheduled to begin at 6:30pm EST.
