Position Title:  Safe Sport Communications Coordinator

Division:  Safe Sport

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt


Reports To:  Director, Safe Sport

Job Summary:

The Safe Sport Communications Coordinator works within the Safe Sport division to provide communications and marketing support to USA Swimming’s athlete abuse prevention and response efforts.  The Safe Sport Communications Coordinator will also work closely with USA Swimming’s Communications division to ensure content and voice align with the organization’s brand standards.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Develop compelling and original Safe Sport content and promotional messaging, including blog posts, press releases, newsletter, factsheets, short form copywriting, copy editing, and proofreading with an eye toward digital audiences
  • Manage the formatting and posting of digital content for emails, newsletters and social media
  • Pitch print, cable, broadcast and digital reporters on key announcements
  • Seek opportunities for improving proactive communications, brand building, and storytelling for Safe Sport programs and events
  • Update the USA Swimming website, including creating new Safe Sport content that includes graphics, photos, videos and audio
  • Monitor Safe Sport news and press appearances and prepare news clips for distribution
  • Develop and manage Safe Sport marketing campaigns from concept to execution to measurement




  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, social work, or other related field
  • Strong and succinct writing skills with the ability to modify style to reach audiences at a variety of levels
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment
  • Ability to balance priorities in order to best focus on key organizational initiatives and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of social media platforms, features, best practices, and audience behavior
  • Experience using social publishing and analytics tools
  • Self-starter with high level of initiative and creativity
  • Ability to work independently to produce high quality work and meet deadlines
  • Team player with a consistently professional demeanor
  • Abillity to travel
