On January 26, Matt Mauser, a longtime member of the aquatic community, lost his wife, and the mother of his children, in the same helicopter crash that killed basketball star Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, five other passengers and the pilot.
Family and friends gathered to remember Christina Mauser Sunday at a private service in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Mauser was a basketball coach at Harbor Day School in Corona del Mar, Calif., where her 11-year-old daughter, Penny, attended school with Gianna. Mauser also worked at Bryant’s Mamba Academy and was on her way to a basketball tournament when the helicopter crashed.
She is survived by her two daughters Penny and Ivy, ages 4 and 11; her 9-year-old son Thomas; and Matt, an All-American swimmer at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, water polo player, and lifeguard.
