Brent Lang is a lifelong swimmer, seasoned business executive, and mentor who brings a unique blend of competitive swimming experience and proven leadership in both the private sector and the Olympic movement. Brent grew up as an age-group swimmer in Beaverton, Oregon, where he swam for the Tualatin Hills Swim Club. He attended the University of Michigan and swam for Coach Jon Urbanchek. Brent graduated summa cum laude with a degree in industrial and operations engineering and was a four-time NCAA champion. He was a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, winning a gold medal as a member of the 4x100 Freestyle Relay at the Seoul Olympics.
Brent began his business career as a management consultant before earning his MBA from Stanford. He spent nine years as CEO and board member of Vocera Communications (NYSE:VCRA), a leader in communication and workflow solutions for hospitals, until the company was acquired by Stryker in 2022. Previously, he served as president and COO and helped lead the company’s successful IPO in 2012.
Until December 2024, Brent served as a Director and Treasurer for the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors. Brent was awarded the CEO World Award in 2014 and the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in 2015. He lives in Los Altos, California, with his wife and still loves swimming with the local Masters team. Swimming has shaped his life, and he’s committed to giving back to the sport that helped define him.
