COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming today named the 67 members of the 2017-18 USA Swimming National Junior Team, honoring many of the nation’s top rising swimming stars for their performances in 2017.
“This year’s National Junior Team roster displays the incredible young talent we have within the ranks of USA Swimming,” said Mitch Dalton, USA Swimming National Junior Team Director. “Combined with the 14 athletes who made the National Team as high schoolers, the National Junior Team honorees are a credit to the amazing work being done by our tremendous club coaches and the programs that place an emphasis on competitive excellence.”
Three swimmers earned National Junior Team status in a team-high four events: Taylor Ault (Hacienda Heights, Calif./La Mirada Armada), Lucie Nordmann (Woodlands, Texas/Magnolia Aquatic Club) and Trey Freeman (Salt Lake City, Utah/Baylor Swim Club). Eight were honored in three-plus events.
2017-18 National Junior Team by the Numbers:
- 67 swimmers named to the National Junior Team (33 women; 34 men)
- 24 states represented; Texas tops the list with 12 selections
- 50-plus USA Swimming clubs represented, including eight clubs with multiple honorees
Many of the roster selections played a key role in Team USA winning a meet-best 32 medals at the 2017 FINA World Junior Championships, presented by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., in Indianapolis last month.
