USA Swimming Names Nine Open Water Swimmers to FINA World Championships Roster

by USA Swimming
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following the results of today’s FINA Marathon Swim World Series Portugal 10K, USA Swimming has announced the names of nine open water swimmers to be added to its roster for the 2022 FINA World Championships.
The swimmers qualify via a points-based system based off results from April’s U.S. Open Water National Championships and today’s FINA Marathon Swim World Series Portugal. Today’s 10K efforts in Portugal were led by Katie Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), who finished eighth in the women’s event, and Joey Tepper (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./University of Tennessee), who finished ninth in the men’s to claim top-American-finisher honors.
Following both the U.S. Open Water National Championships and FINA Marathon Swim World Series Portugal, the following athletes have been added to the U.S. roster for the upcoming FINA World Championships:
Men
Women
Except for Brinegar and Brennan Gravley, who competed at the 2019 FINA Open Water World Championships, every American qualifier will make their FINA Open Water World Championships debut this summer. Grimes will be the only rostered American to swim both a pool and open water event in Budapest as she previously qualified for the U.S. team in both the 400-meter IM and 1500m freestyle.
