Olympians, World Champions Expected to Headline U.S. Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Multiple-time Olympic medalists Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla./Trojan Swim Club) and Cullen Jones (N.J./Wolfpack Elite), as well as recently crowned open water world champion Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./North Carolina Aquatic Club), highlight the expected field for this week’s U.S. Open in East Meadow, N.Y.

The five-day meet runs Wednesday through Sunday at the Nassau County Aquatics Center with daily prelims at 9 a.m. ET followed by finals at 5 p.m. ET. All-session, single-day and single-session tickets are on sale now at usaswimming.org.

Lochte, a 12-time Olympic medalist and four-time Olympian, is expected to compete in the 100-meter backstroke and 200m individual medley, while Jones, a four-time Olympic medalist, is slated to swim the 50m freestyle. Twichell, who recently won gold in the women’s 5-kilometer event at the 2017 FINA World Championships, is expected to compete in the 800m free. Click here for the complete psych sheet.

Additional members of the USA Swimming National Team expected to compete include Olympic gold medalist Gunnar Bentz (Atlanta, Ga./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) and short-course world champion Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Race Pace Club). A number of international standouts also will be in action at the U.S. Open.

Following this week’s U.S. Open, the Nassau County Aquatics Center will host the Speedo Junior National Championships from Aug. 8-12.
