Chase Kalisz Wins Twice at TYR Pro Swim Series at Atlanta

Chase Kalisz - 2017 National Championships

Olympic medalist and world champion Chase Kalisz (Bel Air, Md./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) doubled up with wins in the men’s 200-meter butterfly and 200m individual medley Saturday at the TYR Pro Swim Series at Atlanta at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

First up, Kalisz surged past Jack Conger (Rockville, Md./Nation’s Capital Swim Club) over the final 50 meters in the 200m fly in a pool record 1 minute, 55.78 seconds – just one-tenth ahead of Conger.

Just about 50 minutes later, Kalisz followed with a victory in the 200m IM, touching in 1:57.86 for his third win of the meet. He also won the 400m IM on Friday.

“I think I’m in a great place right now … for me to be able to string a double, like I did there in a relatively short amount of time, with two pretty decent times that I’m happy with,” Kalisz said.

Olympic champion Ryan Murphy (Jacksonville, Fla./California Aquatics) completed a men’s backstroke sweep in Atlanta with a 2018 world-best effort in the 100m back in 53.24, and Madisyn Cox (Lubbock, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics) also earned her second win of the meet with a 2018 world-best time in the 200m IM in 2:09.82.

Zane Grothe (Boulder City, Nev./Mission Viejo Nadadores) claimed his second win in the men’s 400m free in 3:48.84.

Molly Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif./Tennessee Aquatics) won the women’s 100m breast in a personal-best 1:06.09, while Andrew Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Longhorn Aquatics) swept the men’s breaststroke events in Atlanta with a 100m win in a pool-record 59.49.

Hali Flickinger (Spring Grove, Pa./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) won the women’s 200m fly in 2:08.04 and then came back to take second in the 400m free in 4:09.28.

Canada’s Taylor Ruck picked up her fourth win in Atlanta in the women’s 100m back in 59.13, while China’s Wang Jianjiahe won the women’s 400m free in 4:03.14, good for her second victory of the meet.
