Zone Level Events and Insurance

USA Swimming’s 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) and swim clubs are divided into four Zones based on geography –Central, Eastern, Southern, and Western. Click here to view the LSC Zone map. Leaders of each Zone engage in certain activities such as conducting Zone-level championships and facilitating and promoting various activities to support athletes and the sport of swimming within their geographical boundaries. The four Zones are organized groups overseen by elected leaders but are not legal entities. As such, they cannot enter into legal contracts, and their leadership is not able to sign a legal document on behalf of the Zone. When hosting or facilitating activities that require the execution of a legal contract, the Zones may coordinate with one of the LSCs within their boundaries to have the LSC serve as the legal entity entering into and signing the contract, but the LSCs are not obligated to sign.

Any party entering into a contract should carefully review and understand the entirety of the document before signing as they are ultimately the party responsible for the contract’s requirements. Because USA Swimming is not a party to the contract, it is not responsible for any indemnity obligations. Among many other terms, conditions, and requirements, contracts will often contain sections addressing insurance. USA Swimming maintains Commercial General Liability insurance, which includes coverage for claims alleging bodily injury, property damage, or abuse (all subject to policy terms, conditions, and exclusions). If an LSC needs an insurance certificate for an event contract, they can complete the request form here. Questions regarding insurance coverage for LSCs can be directed to Rachel Olson Rolson@usaswimming.org
