Coming off a victory last night in the 800-meter freestyle, Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Cavalier Swimming) claimed her second world title of the meet in the 400m free on day four of the FINA World Championships (25m) at Windsor, Canada’s WFCU Centre.

Through four nights of competition, Team USA has earned 18 medals – seven gold, eight silver and three bronze.

In a personal best time, Smith fought off a fast field of competitors to win the 400m freestyle in 3-minutes, 57.78 seconds. 

“It was hard to get up and go again after last night, but I knew that having a good 800 free would bode well for my 400 free,” said Smith. “Tonight I wanted to be confident in my race strategy, that’s something I forgot about last night, I knew if I did that then that I could do great.” 

Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Race Pace Club) also took home gold, earning his first individual world championship title in the men’s 100m IM. Andrews finished in a personal best time of 51.84.
