“There have been ups and down this week, but some good notes to take in,” said Shields. “I plan on finishing strong tomorrow on the 400m medley relay.”

Shields also helped the men’s 4x50m medley relay to a silver medal, along with teammates Jacob Pebley (Corvallis, Ore./California Aquatics), Cody Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Badger Swim Club) and Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C./University of Missouri). The quartet finished in a time of 1:31.97, only a half-second behind Russia who took home the gold. 

The team of Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Cavalier Swimming), Mallory Comerford (Kalamazoo, Mich./University of Louisville), Sarah Gibson (San Antonio, Texas/Texas A&M University) and Madisyn Cox (Lubbock, Texas/University of Texas) closed out the night with a runner-up finish in the 4x200m free relay. They finished in 7:38.65.

Also earning individual medals for the United States on Tuesday were: 

• Ella Eastin (Irvine, Calif./Stanford Swimming)  – 200m IM, Silver, 2:05.02
• Madisyn Cox (Lubbock, Texas/University of Texas) – 200m IM, Bronze, 2:05.93
• Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Club Wolverine) – 50m Backstroke, Bronze, 26.14 
• Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana University) – 100m Breaststroke, Silver, 1:03.35
• Molly Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif./Tennessee Aquatics)– 100m Breaststroke, Bronze 1:03.89

17-year old Michael Andrew lowered the World Junior Record in the 50m breaststroke twice in today’s prelim and semifinal. He set the bar in prelims with a time of 26.56, then lowered his own record to 26.39 in semifinals. Even with that time, Andrew just missed qualifying for tomorrow’s final placing ninth overall.
