Three More Meet Records Fall on Final Night of Speedo Junior Championships

Two short course Junior Championships records fell Saturday at the Speedo Junior Championships – West meet in Iowa City. Michael Brinegar broke the first, winning the men’s 1650-yard freestyle in 14:37.71. Zoe Bartel set the second in the women’s 200 breast in 2:07.44.

In other highlights from Iowa City, Zane Backes set a West meet record in the men’s 200 breast in 1:55.08. Lucie Nordmann and Dakota Luther set pool records in the women’s 200 back (1:52.18) and 200 butterfly (1:55.19), respectively.

Other first-place finishers at the west meet were: Kaitlynn Sims in the 1650 free (16:10.94); Ethan Harder in the men’s 200 back (1:43.04); Julia Cook in the women’s 100 free (48.37); Daniel Krueger in the men’s 100 free (42.79); Andrew Koustik in the men’s 200 fly (1:43.69); Fort Collins Area Swim Team in the women’s 400 free relay (3:18.28); and Irvine Novaquatics in the men’s 400 free relay (3:00.31).

Irvine Novaquatics won the men’s team title with 357 points, followed by King Aquatic Club with 205 points and North Texas Nadadores with 201 points. On the women’s side, Fort Collins Area Swim Team came out on top with 437 points, followed by Magnolia Aquatic Club with 377 points and Irvine Novaquatics with 251.5 points.

At the Speedo Junior Championships – East meet in Knoxville, Tenn., Olivia Carter set a short course Juniors meet record in the women’s 200 fly in 1:53.94.

Other first-place finishers in Knoxville were: Madison Homovich in the women’s  1650 free (16:10.30); Jacob Magahey (14:52.85); Alexandra Walsh in the women’s 200 back (1:51.42); Carson Foster in the men’s 200 back (1:41.66); Kelly Pash in the women’s 100 free (48.55); Drew Kibler in the men’s 100 free (42.90); Ashley McCauley in the women’s 200 breast (2:09.54); Jacob Foster in the men’s 200 breast (1:55.54); Zachary Brown in the men’s 200 fly (1:44.11); Nashville Aquatics in the women’s 400 free relay (3:17.32); and Allegheny North in the men’s 400 free relay (2:55.96).

The top men’s team at the East meet was Mason Manta Rays with 346 points. SwimMac Carolina was second with 327.5 points, while Carmel Swim Club was third with 311 points. On the women’s side, SwimMac Carolina was first with 514 points, followed by Nashville Aquatic Club with 440 points, and Marlins of Raleigh with 257 points.
