Nathan Adrian Takes 100m Freestyle Title to Open arena Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – Three-time Olympian Nathan Adrian (Bremerton, Wash./California Aquatics) picked up where he left off in his first competition since last summer’s Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, winning the men’s 100-meter freestyle on Thursday at the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series at Indianapolis.

Adrian, a four-time medalist in Rio, was second at the turn and charged home over the final 50 meters to pick up the victory in 48.66 seconds, matching the fastest time in the world this year.

Other Team USA Olympians winning on the opening night of competition at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI included silver medalist Josh Prenot (Santa Maria, Calif./California Aquatics) in the men’s 200m breast in 2:09.93, Kelsi Worrell (Westampton, N.J./Cardinal Aquatics) in the women’s 100m fly in 58.10 and Hali Flickinger (Spring Grove, Pa. Athens Bulldog Swim Club) in the women’s 400m free in 4:08.52.

Also touching first were National Junior Team member Mallory Comerford (Kalamazoo, Mich./University of Louisville) in the women’s 100m free in 53.91 and National Team member Zane Grothe (Boulder City, Nev. Badger Swim Club) in the men’s 400m free with a time of 3:48.14.

International winners on Thursday included Great Britain’s Chloe Tutton in the women’s 200m breast in 2:23.89, and China’s Zhuhao Li in the men’s 100m fly in 51.34.

The three-day meet continues through Saturday with daily prelims at 10 a.m. ET followed by finals at 7 p.m.
